Harleton ISD

The Harleton Independent School District is composed of three campuses: Harleton Elementary, Harleton Junior High and Harleton High School.  Each campus provides a safe and orderly learning environment, dedicated professional educators, a balance of academic, cultural and athletic experiences, individualized instruction and a variety of student services that contribute to student goal attainment and the development of productive and responsible citizens.  Harleton ISD is located in East Texas, about 20 minutes from Marshall, TX and 20 minutes from Longview, TX

District Info

Harleton Independent School District was established in 1904 to serve students from the surrounding areas of the Harleton community. The district offers a variety of educational opportunities to students in grades PK-12, as well as, extra-curricular activities to ensure the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of every child. Harleton ISD: Pride, Tradition, Excellence for All, Forever!


 

Accountability

Under the State of Texas Accountability System, Harleton ISD received a “B” as a district for the 2017-2018 school year.  Elementary campus was an “A” campus, Junior Highs campus a “B” and High School a “B” campus.


 

Our Campuses

Harleton ISD consists of 3 campuses, athletic facilities, & district support facilities.  Our campuses include Harleton Elementary (PreK – 5th Grades 318 students), Harleton Jr High (6th - 8th Grades 181 students), & Harleton High School (9th-12th Grades 218 students).  Total student population is 717.

 


 

Harleton Elementary

HES

Harleton Elementary is a PK-5 campus with 318 students.  We have three sections of every grade level except for our one Head Start PreK class.  HES strives to be a premiere campus in East Texas.  We received an “A” on our accountability rating for the 2017-2018 school year.  Teachers from across the region request to visit and observe our teachers in action.   HES Home Page HES Facebook Page  

 

 


 

Harleton Jr High

HJH

 

 

Harleton Junior High is a 6th-8th Grade campus with 181 students. The campus is served by 27 staff members which include 16 teachers, 5 para-professionals, 1 principal, 1 counselor, 1 librarian, and 3 library aides. Of those staff members, 4 teachers are shared with the high school at various times during the day, and the library aides serve both the junior high and high school campuses at various times during a typical week. The campus received a “B”accountability rating for the 2017-2018 school year. In addition to academic classes, the campus offers many electives including athletics, band, art, robotics, and theater. Harleton High School

HHS

Harleton High School currently serves 217 students in grades 9-12. Approximately 38% of our students are Economically Disadvantaged. We offer numerous CTE programs including Animal Science, Welding, Printing & Imaging, Finance, Audio Visual, and Health Science. We were rated a B campus in the most recent accountability report and earned the following distinctions: Academic Achievement in ELA/Reading and Top 25 Percent Student Progress. We partner with Panola College, Kilgore College, and Texas State Technical College to offer dual credit courses opportunities. We strive to offer the best learning environment, encourage parent involvement, and always try to do what is in the best interest of our students. Qualifications / Characteristics

Qualifications:

The following criteria will be used to screen, evaluate, and select a new Superintendent for Harleton ISD:

  • Master’s degree in Education is required.

  • Current TEA Superintendent Certificate in the State of Texas is required.

  • Public School Administrative experience required.

Characteristics:

 

  1. Candidate should be willing and able to handle the challenges of growth, finances, and political influence.

  2. Candidate should possess and demonstrate personnel management skills.

  3. Candidate should possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and political skills to assume an active leadership role in the city, state, and region on funding, infrastructure, and other education-related issues.

  4. Candidate should have the predisposition, desire, and ability to proactively engage students, parents, teachers, principals, support staff, local governments, education-related organizations, minority representatives, the business community, and various community stakeholders in authentic dialogue and partnerships.

  5. Candidate should have a demonstrated record of operational oversight of a school or district.

  6. Candidate should have a demonstrated record of fiscal management.

  7. Candidate should demonstrate a history of success in student academic performance.

  8. Candidate should have a clear vision of how to lead the District through improved student achievement, communication, staff morale, and school finance.
