FYI:

There are 3 things you should be doing now:  Taking the ACT/SAT, visiting colleges and choosing a college.

Request a transcript through Ms. Oney because she needs to put your ranking, GPA, and THEA exemption on it.

Senior Athletes:  Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse if you want to play college athletics.

Senior Males:  You must register with the Selective Service within 30 days of your 18th birthday.  It’s the law!!!  Now, men can submit their registration information when they turn 17 years and 3 months and will automatically be registered upon turning 18.  Pick up registration at post office or at www.sss.gov.

Students who rank in the top 10% of their high school class are automatically admitted to any public university in Texas.

When you get accepted to a college, bring Ms. Oney your acceptance letter.

Hardin Simmons University  Admission requirements: Level I—ACT 23 or SAT 1650 or Top 10% of HS graduating class:  Level II---Minimum ACT 20-22 or minimum SAT 1390-1640 or top 25% of HS graduating class (if ACT is less than 20 or SAT less than 950 then COHD 1300 (Student Success Seminar) is required) AND 3 letters of recommendation.

ACT/SAT

*Take the ACT/SAT at least once this fall and again in the spring.  Most scholarships require ACT/SAT scores.

*Ms. Oney has hard copies of ACT/SAT practice tests to check out.

*For a free ACT or SAT test prep tutorial, visit www.number2.com.

*Suggestion:  Take both the ACT and SAT.  They are totally different tests and you will score better on one.  ACT has English, reading, math, and science reasoning.  SAT sections are math and verbal with a big part on analogies and sentence completion.

*Students who are on free/reduced lunch, Ms. Oney has a fee waiver for ACT/SAT, NCAA Clearinghouse, and college admissions applications.  Don’t pay for anything without asking Ms. Oney!!!!

THEA

*THEA Exemption = ACT/23; SAT/1070; TAKS/2200 on Math and ELA and 3 on writing
