HJH Campus Improvement Plan

Welcome to Harleton Junior High!

Grades 6-8 are a time of growth and discovery, a chance for students to explore their interests, build confidence, and start shaping their future. Set in the heart of East Texas, our campus is a place where curiousity is encouraged, challenges are embraced, and students are supported every step of the way.

We are here to help guide our student’s journey through transition, growth, and opportunity. Our teachers and staff are passionate about helping students build strong academic skills, take ownership of their learning, and grown into respectful, responsible individuals. Whether through classroom experiencs, extracurriculars, or personal connections, we aim to create an environment where every student can find their place and their voice.

Together with families, we’re laying the groundwork for success in the classroom and beyond. We are excited for what the future holds and proud to part of your story.

Melinda Ready, Harleton Junior High Principal

A woman with long, dark hair smiles directly at the camera.

I have been a proud member of the Harleton ISD community since 2002. Throughout my time here, I have had the opportunity to teach in various capacities, including second grade, third grade, and fifth grade. Each of these experiences has enriched my understanding of the diverse needs of our students and has deepened my commitment to their growth and development.

After earning my master’s degree in education, I transitioned into an administrative role as an assistant principal, a position I held for three years. This experience allowed me to further support teachers and students alike, fostering an environment where learning could thrive. Currently, I am entering my fifth year as a junior high principal, a role that brings me so much joy. It is particularly rewarding to witness the growth of the students I once taught as they transition into young adults, navigating their own academic and personal journeys.

Education is not just a profession for me; it is my passion and my calling. I truly believe that these children and teachers are the reason I am here, and they inspire me to return to school every day with enthusiasm and dedication. Our team at Harleton ISD is exceptional—a group of devoted teachers and staff who genuinely care about the well-being and success of every student. Together, we create a supportive environment that encourages students to reach their full potential.

In my free time, I cherish the time spent with my husband and our family. I love to travel. The mountains are my favorite place to visit. I wouldn’t be mad at all if I had my very own cabin in the mountains right next to a river.

I am grateful for the journey I have been on in education and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the lives of our students at Harleton ISD.

Attendance is Important!

At Harleton Junior High, showing up to school all day, every day helps students stay on track, build strong habits, and work toward future goals. Missing class means missing important lessons, time with friends, and chances to grow. That’s why we’re here to support students and families in making attendance a priority—because being present now leads to success later.
